Introduction
A most holy Hindu shrine, situated in East Delhi, the Akshardham temple is situated on the banks of River Yamuna. Pramukh Swami Maharaj who also happens to be the guiding light of Swaminarayan Sanstha, BAPS has guided the construction of temple. It is popular shrine that amazes you with its various cultural and educational activities. Though, its architecture looks similar to that of Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar (Gujarat) but thoroughly made up of Pink Sandstone and Italian Marble.
Inside it you can see 11 ft tall gilded statue of its leader Bhagwan Swaminarayan and elaborated floral designing, arches, 20,000 statues, and extraordinary carved pillars remarkably represent wonderful Indian culture. However, the Boat Ride, Garden of India, Narayan Sarovar, AARSH Centre, etc. are some really exquisite draws of this temple that educates you more about your Indian cultural vastness. While discovering its inner sights, you may also see first the ‘Hall of Values’ or the Sahajanand Pradarshan featuring incidents from the life of Swaminarayan, a film Neelkanth Yatrain in its in-house theatre called Neelkanth Kalyan Yatra and feel refreshed at the Yagnapurush Kund, the country’s largest step well musical.
