During the month of October and November Durga puja is celebrated all over the world, specially in Kolkata. Durga puja celebration is done on the occassion of Goddess Durga Killed Demons. Durga Puja Festival is regarded as a victory of Good over Evil.


Durga Puja starts with Mahalaya and continues for 9 days which is also known as Navrate.

Durga Puja, the most happening festival of the Bengalis can be sensed with its spurt of fanfare on all the four days of the Durga Puja festival. This autumnal festival popularly known as Sharodotsav, recalls the power of female Shakti symbolized by the Goddess Durga who slays asura to reestablish peace and sanctity on earth again. Bengalis all over the world during these days of Durga Puja rejoice to their heart’s content reconnecting with friends and relatives. Durga Puja is an occasion when the familiar sound of Dhak, Dhunuchi Naach,the mild fragrance of Shiuli, gives a familiar tug to every Bengali heart.

  • In 2015 dates are – October 18-23
  • In 2016 dates are – October 7-11.
  • In 2017 dates are – September 26-30.
  • In 2018 dates are – October 14-19
  • In 2019 dates are – October 3-7
  • In 2020 dates are – October 20-24
