What is Hatha Yoga- Postures

Hatha Yoga is a yoga practice which is done forcefully. Yoga has eight limbs, only one of which, asana, involves doing yoga poses. When you do Asthana or Iyengar, this is hatha yoga.  The physical yoga postures must have seemed forceful compared to the other more subtle practices that were in use at the time that hatha emerged.

Meaning of “ha ” is  “sun” and “tha” is  “moon. Sometimes Hatha Yoga is also known as the “forceful yoga”, because it requires a lot of physical and mental effort. Hatha yoga is very popular in the west.

What most people refer to as simply “yoga” is actually Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga is a system of yoga introduced by Yogi Swatmarama, a yogic stage in the 15th century inIndia. This particular system of yoga is the most popular one, and it is from which several other Styles of Yoga originated including Power Yoga, Bikram Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, and Kundalini Yoga.

Hatha Yoga tries to achieve balance between body and mind, as well as attempts to free the more subtle spiritual elements of the mind through physical poses or Asanas, Breathing Techniques  or Pranayama, and Meditation.
